If you're an art lover like us, there's chance the sweet little Yeah, Nice gallery has popped up on your radar. The work of Holly and Jordi, the gallery is amongst the hub that is Soko Space in Byron Bay's notoriously creative Industrial estate.
We had the opportunity to ask these two inspiring women a little bit about the space and themselves.
Q1: Hi Holly + Jordi, welcome to the Woman Of Series! Can you tell us what it is you create?
We’ve created a space to celebrate art, the people who create it and the community that can immerse themselves in it.
Q2: When did you start Yeah, Nice Gallery? What inspired you to go down this path?
The gallery kicked off in the summer of 2018 in a little fibro shed in Mullumbimby. To be honest, we didn’t really have much of a plan at that stage - we were inspired by each other to just give the whole thing a crack and see where we landed! We were aching for an art space that had a good vibe and one that we could see all the artists we knew hold space in.
Q3: Talk us through your creative process. How do you source exhibitors that align with your signature style?
Lots of artists are friends of ours and we are happy to host the same artist more than once if we enjoy working with them and their works speak to us. This was certainly true for the first 2 years of running shows.
Q4: What is your favourite piece you’ve sourced? Why?
We couldn’t name just one! Let’s just say that we both wish we had more room on our walls at home so we could have more of our artists at home with us!
Q5: What single tool or strategy have you found invaluable to your business so far?
Be nice and play to your strengths
Q6: What (and who) is involved in the process of bringing an exhibition to life?
It’s us (Holly and Jordi) and our artists who we work closely with to bring the show from conception to a finished exhibition. They can choose to have as much or as little involvement with the actual hanging as they like. A big thank you to our partners Nich and Tory, who help us with each and every installation. The real magic happens when our community gets in there and we see them interact with and experience the show.
Q7: What is your big hope and dream for your work?
Maybe another gallery location one day along with artist residencies. At the moment, we are still thrilled with the calibre of work and artists coming through our roller door.
Q8: What are your top 3 superpowers?
Q9: We’re all about women inspiring women. Who inspires you?
All our amazing friends and artists
Q10: What advice would you impart on the next generation of women, and women in business?
Do what makes you happier, just give it a go and see what might come of it. Also don’t be too precious and do what you;’ve got to do in order to make the dream work.
