Through my making I aim to create some kind of portal, that transports the viewer to a place of peace and wonder. The feelings one gets when in nature, with no worry or distraction from the outside world.
Hi Zali, welcome to the Woman Of Series! Can you tell us what it is you create?
I make artworks and clay sculptures. Through my making I try to translate my love of nature by creating small portals, aimed to transport you to that place of wonder and stillness.
Talk us through your creative process. How do you reach your signature style?
I guess over the years I have just become better at listening to and letting the creative voice just flow through me, without question. Everything I make now is just completely me.
What is your big hope and dream for your work?
I would love to just continue making my art forever, to let it take me wherever I need to be. To keep learning and growing in creating as much as I can. As well as hopefully live off it a lot more in the future, to be able to just make for a living would be incredible!
What are your top 3 superpowers?
Hmm, I would say perhaps creativity... openness and willingness to learn and grow.
We’re all about women inspiring women. Who inspires you?
My mother has always been a huge inspiration for me, her passion for creating has always inspired me to push myself further and listen to my inner self. I feel very lucky that all the women around me are such incredible creators, they all inspire me in their own ways to do more and be more.
What advice would you impart on the next generation of women?
To really just trust the flow of life, to surrender to it. With creativity as well, I have truly found that as soon as you let yourself free of judgement or pressure all the best ideas and creations come forward.
