Painting happy places with Clare Wright

Woman Of Art 5

I love architecture and people’s personal interiors. My artwork aims to create a scene with depth, detail and an abundance of character.

For these pieces my inspirations sparked from a 1970’s Home magazine (Australian Home) and a house figurine (Inside, Outside) that I bought from a charity shop in Cirencester. The preferred medium that I use are water-based.

Hi Clare, welcome to the Woman Of Series! Can you tell us what it is you create?
I create all sorts of things. I draw everyday, paint happy places when I can and sew clothes made from recycled materials.

Talk us through your creative process. How do you reach your signature style?
Firstly I imagine a cottage or an old barn, a happy place (I love architecture). Once I’ve got a structure going with some depth, I let my creative brain wild with design. Then I watercolour in, and lastly I go over with a fine line, I love drawing in the details.

Everything I do, I go with what I feel and what makes me feel happy, as if I am in the space on the paper creating from the inside.

What is your big hope and dream for your work?
To inspire others and to be creative for the rest of my life.

What are your top 3 superpowers?
1. To fly

2. To have the ability to retain endless amounts of knowledge

3. To breath underwater

We’re all about women inspiring women. Who inspires you?
Independent women for sure. I recently watched this short clip of an artist who lives in London 'Jade Fadojutimi’. She put me on a creative buzz and even thinking about her now makes me want to create.

What advice would you impart on the next generation of women?
Be kind to yourself by rewarding your mind with positive affirmations. Surround yourself with likeminded people who inspire you to become your best self. Treat every day as a learning day and go for walks.
