I am interested in making works that sit between the figurative and abstract. I want to explore the liminal space that we inhabit, existing between different stages of light.

I think the sea and the shore is the perfect location to explore these themes, the ocean can go through so many moods in the blink of the eye. It's a consuming and such an atmospheric place that makes me feel a sense of belonging and yet also at the same time lost.

Hi Lauren, welcome to the Woman Of Series! Can you tell us what it is you create?
Lauren Jones’ is a painter who works primarily in oils. Her paintings embody an appreciation for the natural environment and human form, exploring emotional narratives through the materiality of paint. Her ‘alla prima’ method helps capture the essence of the subject without being overly concerned with realism.

Talk us through your creative process. How do you reach your signature style?
My work is often inspired by the sea. It can be such an atmospheric place and I'm interested in the little worlds the tidal environment holds, forever changing. I explore these themes through beach combing and being inspired by emotive films and photographs that capture a certain mood (often a time of day).

The walls of my studio turn into a large mood board for a series I'm working on. I enjoy playing with colour schemes and being inspired by other painters and poets.

What is your big hope and dream for your work?
I would love to one day make a living from my artwork. To have a large solo exhibition and travel and paint with my little family..

What are your top 3 superpowers?

1. I am pretty good at baking cookies
2. Holding my breath underwater
3. Understanding feelings

We’re all about women inspiring women. Who inspires you?
As a painter I'm inspired by Clara Adolphs and Del Kathryn Barton. Both masters of paint and texture.

Personally I'm inspired by my mother, her kindness and selflessness has no bounds.

What advice would you impart on the next generation of women?

Don't be a victim of your circumstance. Keep loving and keep giving.
